SEO Smart Links Plugin: Optimize WordPress’ Internal Link Structure

A lot of so-called SEO professionals spend a lot of time finding new ways to gather do-follow links to their sites and get the right anchor text in those links. That’s not a bad strategy as we all know Google and other top search engines pay a lot of attention to links (though the degree that they do differs). But it’s surprising to see how many of these folks forget about optimizing the internal structure of their own sites, something that they are in control. Whether you own a blog, portal, or something in between, there are always opportunities for you to link out to your other pages and help Google and other top search engines crawl through your web pages more effectively.

If you are running WordPress, you are in luck. You can essentially automate the process by taking advantage of SEO Smart Links, which is a killer free SEO plugin for WordPress.

The plugin is quite easy to figure out and gives you flexibility to only hyperlink sentences and phrases on your posts, page, comments, or just one of the three.

I am not a big fan of playing the PR game. There are some SEOs who get great pleasure of getting their sites to higher PRs. I rather focus on things that need to be done and have the PR work itself out. But there are small little things you can do to keep your PR as high as it is. You certainly want to address PR leaks on your website, if you can. No-following links that should be no-followed is a no brainer as well. Thanks to SEO Smart Links, you can add nofollow attribute to your internal links as well. It is also possible to make them open in a new window. So it does save you some time and effort in this regard as well.

Your optimized internal link structure is not going to suddenly get you to the top of the search engines. But it can increase your traffic and help you retain and convert more visitors to loyal followers. And you don’t have to do too much to take advantage of it. It’s a win win if you ask me.

Love this plugin, I recently installed the plugin and it helps perfectly with internal linking, and refreshing older posts with new links to other new posts that you have created. Definitely one of the best mods I have downloaded for WP!
