Link To Your Own Stories, Often
June 22, 2010SEO'dNo Comments
Link building is one of the most important search engine optimization tactics, and that is not going to change any time soon. While you can get ranked for non-competitive terms based on your domain name or the keywords you use on your website, it’d be tough to get away with it for highly competitive terms. So link building should play a big part in your strategy. Not only you should get links from other websites, you should link to your pages too. It’s amazing how many webmasters do not give enough love to their own articles.
You not only want to actively link to your other articles, you can use plugins and scripts to automatically link to your similar and top stories. It never hurts to give your visitors access to more of your stories. Similar Posts and Popular Posts are just two plugins that can work great here. Using services such as LinkWithin gives you a more dynamic way to link out to your other stories and get people to spend more time on your website.

Linking to your own stories should be a part of your agenda every time you develop a new piece of content. If you can’t find a story on your website to link to, then you should probably spend some time to plug the holes on your website. The SEO basics do apply here. You want to link to your own stories with the right text and manage the flow of link juice through your website properly.
Link building should play a big role in your SEO strategy. But don’t forget why you are taking time to optimize your website for the search engines.
