I can’t tell you how many times I have heard from so-called gurus that while header tags are important, a company is better off if they focus on real SEO. If you have been following this blog, you have probably read a few of my rants on on-page and off-page search engine techniques and my distaste for posers. By posers I mean people who have used their salesmanship to claim “guru” status in the SEO industry, but at the end of the day they do more harm than good for their clients.
Everybody knows link building or having decent content is important. And you can be sure that your competitors will focus on those issues as well. But what I don’t understand is why on-page SEO tactics get no love from a lot of well-known SEO experts. People rather talk about Silos and LSI than actually doing some code optimization. I know. It’s cool to know what exactly LSI is and how it can help you dominate the search engines, but if you don’t optimize your code, you can’t expect to maximize your end result.
<h1>, <h2>, and <h3> are very important to search engines. They tell search engines what keywords are important on your page and what your page is all about. So you should definitely put your keywords in your <h1> tag. The other two tags are slightly less important but here is where LSI comes in. You can put your LSI keywords in h2 or h3 to show search engines that you have a highly relevant site. As you see, coding techniques are highly underrated but could be the difference in many niches. A lot of people ignore coding techniques and call them overrated, but at the end of the day, code optimization should be an important part of your SEO campaign.
