Scam Alert: 5 Things that a Guaranteed No. 1 Google Ranking Means

If you know anything about SEO, you have probably heard of companies that guarantee No. 1 ranking on major search engines for nominal monthly fees. But no one should ever all for this “get to the top of search engines” scheme. But here are 5 reasons why people go ahead and pay for these services anyway:

1. You want to treat your SEO like PPC. In other words, you would like to see changes overnight, and once you are promised that, you’d fall for it. That’s too bad as you may end up damaging your brand and your rankings badly through unethical practices.

2. You believe in the “easy button.” Perhaps you watch too much TV and have seen the commercial numerous times. There is no easy button in SEO. Either you get the process right or you don’t. You can’t just shortcut your way to the top of search engines.

3. No. 1 means No. 1 to you. After all, a winner is a winner. Wrong! Being ranked No. 1 for the term “credit card” is much different than being ranked first for “my sweet potato card.” No one wants to rank for terrible terms!

4. You don’t care about SEO too much. You do however want to give it a try without really treating as anything serious. You want to some presence in the channel per se. Sort of reminds me of my web host. I am paying checks to a web host without even using their service, and I haven’t bothered to cancel. Well, that is the wrong approach especially if it backfires on you and you get banned on Google!

5. You love burning cash. Many of us like to spend cash but that’s when you need to have some logic. If you like to burn cash for the sake of getting rid of it, you can always give it to those who need it more than you do. If you just love burning cash for yourself, then you need to see a therapist, period!

The moral of story is that you should not fall for these get-to-the-top-quick schemes. Not in the 21st century where you could find out about others who have tried these services and failed miserably.
