Keyword Research With Trellian – Part I:

icon1 Posted by SEO'd in SEO Tools on 10 20th, 2009 | no responses

If you have been involved in the SEO business, you have probably heard of Trellian software. These folks are responsible for some of the best SEO tools on the market. Does Keyword Discovery ring a bell? Keyword Discovery is certainly one of the best keyword research tools around. But there is more to Trellian software than Keyword Discovery. You can get a lot of useful information from Trellian’s Competitive Intelligence tools as well. Sometimes, it’s just not enough to have the right keywords. Knowing what your competitors are up to can help big time.

Unfortunately, there are no tools that would give you 100% accurate competitive information. It’s just not going to happen (unless some insider spills the beans). At the same time, CI services such as that of Trellian’s allow you to find out what your competitors are putting their focus on. Trellian Competitive Intelligence offers you 6 services to help you find out what links are driving traffic to your competitor’s, what search terms your competitors are using to run advertisements on major search engines, and who their affiliate partners are.

Let’s see what some of these services do:

  • Link Intelligence: a great way to find out who’s sending traffic to your competitors and who you can add to your list of link partners.
  • Campaign Intelligence: if you want to go beyond SEO and want to find out what keywords your competitors may be using to get exposure for less, this tool comes in.
  • Search Term Intelligence: find out what keywords are traffic drivers for your competitors. You can compare your own keyword list with what you get here to figure out what you need to work on.
  • Rankings: Trellian can keep track of your competitors’ rankings as well. Yet another set of data that you can keep track of to find out what your need to work on.
  • Partner Tracking: if your competitors are using affiliates to generate traffic, this tool will give you some insight on it all. It’s not 100% accurate, but it’s still useful to take a look at.

All in all, services such as Trellian’s Competitove Intelligence and Hitwise provide you with a useful set of data that you can dig into to optimize your own campaigns and drive more traffic to your website. Going through the data could be tedious, but if you play your cards right, it will be worth your time.
